There are different kinds of business etiquette and manners the Japanese uphold especially when it comes to such business occasion and as businessman ourselves we should observe and acknowledge such etiquettes and manners.
A few of the etiquette that would probably be standard even to the rest of the world but it is strongly observed by the Japanese is that time management. They would be arranging for appointment weeks in advance and they prefer to call by phone for appointment rather than email, letters or fax. They are strictly towards punctuality as time is gold for them and they love to be on time for any business meetings even among themselves. Even when you are seated at the table, you are seated according to seniority and level where the most senior person would be seated away from the door and the junior would be closest to the door. Never refuse a request as this would a long term relationship for the Japanese to have business with you. A token of appreciation would not hurt especially when it is given out to the most senior worker as part of concluding a good and reliable business deal. Japanese are known to be patient and dedicated so you have to be patience and slowly to explain to them as they appreciated every little detail that has to be listening by them from you. When you are giving out your business cards, the Japanese would not straightaway be keeping it in their wallet or bag but they would place the card next to them facing their view as a sign of respect and acknowledgment and they would receiving the card with both hand. The Japanese business card would be in Japanese thus you are not supposed to question but provide your business cards printed in Japanese for mutual understanding and agreement between both parties.
